whale and plankton happily together with chui faces at 10am
vor-guuue galore
another sleepy day. that's becos this week's school started at 830 for 4/5 day and the last day starts at 930am. which isn't of any consolation, because it's a saturday.having to go back to school on a FREAKING SATURDAY is like a torn in my schedule. no short trips or plans anymore. and next week it's 5 days 830 and 6th day 930. SIANISM TO THE MAX!! argh~
currently at adm library nua-ing. another 5 hour break. hutt just finished blogging now it's my turn. but i'm really hungry so gonna eat oily greasy chicken cutlet at hall 2. to b continued...
yesterday's practical was interesting. i caught a few Him -8 c elegans and my first victim (after many unsuccessful tries cos they were playing catching with me!) was named xiao ming though i think it might be a hemaphrodite aka female. at first i had really poor eye and hand coordination. and the others were saying they should have filmed me trying to catch my victim. i think i was narrating too much. like talking to the microscope. but it wasn't easy at first. after all we had to view through the compound microscope and try to lure it to with bacteria "food" coated onto the filter paper, so as to sub culture it or rather move house for xiao ming. for those who know how a filter paper looks like.. it's big and thin, "zhor deng" hence i used quite a bit of force and ended up scraping the agar. my dear miss j treated it like a warfare. many c elegans were murdered by her. hahahha. btw the worms were 1mm and transparent so we could observe the anatomy and sex. i swear it was quite straining to do all of that under the microscope.
anyways if only we could handle larger sized creatures. just like in tp. my very first one was the fish. next was mice, and we got really excited at first. however they were so damn aggressive that even my classmates who had 2 gloves on were bitten through. so naturally i was very afraid of restraining them. when i finally did so and it was time to inject them, i cried. omgosh. i think it partially cause i couldnt bring myself to pierce them with the syringe and i was one of the last few in class to do so, hence added on stress. hah..i feel quite silly looking back then. next up was rats, they smelled of pee but were oh-so-cute! some of us really wanted to sneak them out and not put them to sleep after our experiment. so we thought of various ways like stuffing it into out labcoat pockets or the empty paper wipes box etc. sad to say mission failed. there was a body count. hai.. but i'll rem my rat, forgot his name though. he was so gentle and submissive. no biting too!
usually 2 to 1 animal. for the mice and rats we had to inject/draw blood through the various route of entries. i remembered taking blood from the cardiac route as a last resort after they were knocked out. and the most gross of all was using a capillary tube to insert to their eyeballs to retrieve blood. we had to twist and twist the tube into the corner of the eye till we hit the vessel. damn cruel la, imagine if it was your eye. hur. the finale was OD-ing it with anaesthesia then slice it open to study the organs then throw away.
last victim was the rabbit. poor rabbits ( 2 for entire class). think they were traumatized after everyone of us got a chance to learn how to restrain them. ( it includes turning them upside down and holding it's head in btw your thighs so that we can inject saline into the peritoneal. imagine each rabbit being tossed upside down ~20 times? lol..good game man) heard that after we graduated, the new batches even got cat and dog carcasses. sigh.. if only we had them too. lab sessions then were so much fun!
hmm, i just found out sth. just had my 2nd lesson today. found out that he's autistic. probably mild or sth. no wonder i was thinking how come primary one still can't add/ subtract. during my first lesson with him, he was well behaved and ok. today's like i wanna vomit blood. well, guess he showed his true colours. hah. constantly on the move and distracted and even 2-2 also can't solve. omgosh. this is my first time giving tuition. i should i continue or give up???
